Role of the Governing Body
The Full Governing Body is collectively responsible for the overall direction of the school and its strategic management. Effective governance stems from decision-making based on comprehensive and accurate information about the school. Effective governance also results in clear public accountability for the performance of the school. The Full Governing Body has a strategic role and is responsible for setting the school’s educational and financial priorities, and for ensuring the budget is managed effectively. It is also responsible for ensuring the school meets its statutory obligations and, through the Headteacher, the Local Authority’s financial regulations and standing orders.
The governing body must establish, protect and promote the school’s ethos and values and set policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives. It must also monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives.
The governing body needs to be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend). The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body.
Our Governing Body currently comprises of 2 committees:
1. Monitoring Committee - This has been set up to monitor and evaluate the progress of the School Action Plan/Monitoring plan. It also discusses pupil progress and curriculum developments.
2. Resources and Premises Committee - deals with Finance and Staffing, Health and Safety and Premises issues.
The full Governing Body meet 3 times a year, once in each school term. Each committee meets once every term.
Minutes of meetings are published and available in school to anybody who wishes to read them.
