Helen Chan (Co-opted Governor) 

I was elected as a parent governor at Oak Tree Primary School in May 2022. I currently have three children attending Oak Tree Primary School. After my parent governor role ended, I continued as a co-opted governor. I currently chair the Teaching and Learning Committee, and I am also the Development Governor.

I work at the Manchester Institute of Education at the University of Manchester, where I also completed my PhD in Education. I teach both undergraduate and postgraduate students across a few different education programmes. My research focuses on how migrant families engage with education, and how education shapes family relationships. My work means that I engage regularly with ongoing educational research and practice, which informs my role as a governor.
