Summer
In English we will be reading and writing biographies about famous activists. We will be learning about using the third person and past tense. To make our biographies accurate we will be learning about the differences between facts and opinions. Another genre we will be studying is letters. We will be writing these in role as some of the activists we have been studying. After half term we will be writing our own fantasy stories based on Pattan's Pumpkin and will be writing diaries in role as Malala (based on the story of Malala's Magic Pencil).
In Maths we will be revisiting addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be using a range of methods to answer one and two step problems. In the summer we will be focussing on measure, including: time, length, capacity and mass. We will also be revisiting shape and will be learning how to use data handling to read graphs and answer questions.
As Geographers we will be using atlases, maps and globes to locate key places. We will be using 4 figure grid references and keys to locate features and places on OS maps. We will also be learning how to create sketch maps, including one of the school grounds and one of Bramhall Park (after our exciting trip!)
As Historians we will be finding out about a range of activists, including: Greta Thunberg, Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, Nelson Mandela, Wangari Maathai and Florence Nightingale. We will be looking at their motivation, achievements and legacy. We will be using a range of primary and secondary sources to help us find out about and sequence historical events. We will also be using Drama, and our Historical knowledge to give reasons about how they have impacted our lives and the world.
As Scientists we learning about what humans and animals need to survive. We will be finding out about what makes us healthy and how we can keep safe. Later in the year we will be investigating what helps a plant to grow. We will be making predictions, considering variables, recording our results and drawing conclusions.
As Musicians we will be finding out about traditional English folk music and will be learning rhythms, repeating them and then creating our own. We will be evaluating the texture of pieces of music and creating texture through adding layers to our own.
As Computer specialists (in Computing) we have two exciting units to cover. In our first unit, we will be safe researchers. We will be finding out about searching the internet safely to research famous activists. We will then be using these to create our own presentations. In our second unit we will be creating films using stop motion animation. We will be creating our own backdrops, props and characters, using our historical knowledge to help us.
As Artists we will be creating portraits. We will be learning about shading, tone and texture. We will also learn about a range of pencil grades. When drawing, we will find out more about proportion and apply this to our artwork.
In RE we will be reflecting on our knowledge of different religions we have studied this year. We will then be considering how some of these values apply to us and what is special in our lives.
As Engineers (in DT) we will be learning about axels and how they help things move. We will be creating our own activist-mobiles which are climate friendly as they move using elastic energy (from an elastic band).
