Oak Tree Primary School

School Council

At Oak Tree, we value democracy and allowing every child's voice to be heard. We run our school council in a very democratic way, allowing for each class to put forward their ideas for how to improve our school, to vote for any changes that are going to be made and to ensure each pupil is involved in decision making, every step of the way!

Our school council communication team is ran by Year 5 and 6 pupils, they each wrote applications and were voted in by members of their classes. We decided to make this opportunity for our Upper Key Stage 2 pupils this year, this is to give them an opportunity to run projects and develop important skills that they can take with them when they go to high school.

Our Councillors are the voice of their peers and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them. They also have a number of responsibilities within school. We talk about everything from developing policies to ideas for fundraising events and fun days! Through the School Council and our class meetings, all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all pupils within each class to reach a democratic solution. Pupils at Oak Tree Primary School know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter. Miss Sant leads the school council. If you have any suggestions for us to consider at our next meeting, please let a Class Councillor know!
