Throughout a unit of Art and Design, children's substantive knowledge of artists and the skills linked to the 7 Elements of Art are being assessed through class discussions, the use of sketchbooks, flashbacks and adult led questioning. 

At the end of each unit, children have the oppertunity to evaluate their own pieces of art using the 7 Principles of Art and Design. The use of the 7 Principles allows class teachers to assess the childrens understanding and application of the disciplinary knowledge of Art and Design in context to their own pieces of art.
