We use a range of different assessment methods for reading. This enables us to give each child both a formal assessment but also teacher assessment level as we have a full knowledge of their reading. 

Little Wandle Assessment - We use Little Wandle assessments to test children’s phonics knowledge. We use these to organise which phonics phase books the children are reading and create reading groups. 

PM Benchmarking (Post Phase 5 - Y2-6) - We use PM benchmarking to assess children’s reading. This tool gives us a book band for their home reader. We also use this to band texts used for reading interventions. 

Testing - Y1, 3, 4 & 5 - We use the Testbase assessments termly to assess children in reading. This covers all content domains and gives us a standardised score for each child. 

Testing - Y2 & 6 - We use the national Curriculum Test papers from the DfE termly to assess children in reading. This covers all content domains and gives us a standardised score for each child.
