Keeping our expectations high
Little Wandle teaches whole class sessions in Reception and Year One. Lessons are scaffolded carefully so that children who are operating at a slightly lower level in their reading, can still access the lessons. Children write on whiteboards during the lesson, which allows them to feel that they can have a go.
Where possible, Teaching Assistants support children during lessons, in particular with the writing aspect of the lesson, which is often supported at a table with a small group.
Some of our children with additional needs are supported with some of the word reading aspects at a later time to the lesson 1:1 in a quieter environment.
Staff are encouraged to identify those children who need additional ‘Keep Up’ sessions and these run regularly across Reception and Year One.
