Helen Choen Yin Chan
After graduating with a Maths degree from the University of Manchester, I moved to China and eventually became a teacher there. I have had a mixture of teaching experience, including working at British international schools and for the British Council, but mostly I taught English as a foreign language for a number of years at universities in Beijing. I came back to the UK in 2015 to start a family and we settled down in Manchester. In 2016, I completed a Master’s in Intercultural Communication and since 2017, I have been doing a PhD in Education at the University of Manchester. I also currently work at the University, teaching and supervising undergraduate and master’s students studying Education.
I moved to Cheadle last year (summer 2021) and I currently have three children in Oak Tree (nursery, year 1 and year 2). We have been really impressed with Oak Tree so far and our children have settled in really well. We could not have been happier with our choice of school.
I was recently elected as a parent governor (May 2022) and I look forward to working with the governing board at Oak Tree. I hope that my personal and professional experience and knowledge can provide a useful perspective to the governing board. I feel privileged and excited to be able to play a part in the further development of our school.
